STENCIL DECORATION has been used for embellishments for hundreds of years.
My interest in this form of design began when I received the DRIEHAUS CAPITAL MANAGEMENT commission. The building where the office is located carries a historical presence in the City of Chicago and I wanted to extend that decorative distinction throughout the building.
When appropriate I have since incorporated period stencil designs into both PUBLIC and PRIVATE commissions,.
EVERY PERIOD in HISTORY will have its own distinctive stencil designs that can be easily recognized.
The TRADEMARKS of BAROQUE are extravagant concepts, elaborate theatrical design that used realism and ornate forms. The artist JAQUES STELLA (1596-1657) was employed by the Medici Prince Cosimo II and later court painter to Louis XIII.
BAROQUE ART and architecture flourished in the 17th century Europe,

William MORRIS (1834-1896) was a Victorian artist and craftsman.
The firm of William Morris & Co produced works ranging from stained glass windows and furniture to tapestries, carpets and printed woven fabric. Wall paper designs created by MORRIS still remain in production after more than a century they first introduced.

The ART DECO Period (1920-1930) of design had its beginnings in France.
ART DECO can be recognized by stylized compositions, crisp geometric line and the use of both primary and secondary color palettes can often identify these designs.
THE MOVEMENT was influenced with the discovery of Tutankhamun tomb by Howard Carter. African tribal art, ancient Egyptian culture and Assyrian art are just several of the sources artists and designers used for their inspiration during this period.
