SIGNED UP FOR ANOTHER FABULOUS art instruction class with my favorite on-line Australian teacher, Liz Steel. Which brings to mind a gift I received from my dear Uncle Leonard over 40 years ago.

One day he presented me with a box full of his late sister’s art school mail correspondence textbooks. The cardboard suitcase, showing much wear and tear, was completely full of all Auntie’s art instruction treasures. Each subject had its own booklet that pertained to architecture, perspective, and drawing are just a few.

My uncle related how his older sister would go to the mailbox each Friday. He had fond memories of her anxiously waiting to see what grades were received on the weekly assignment and review her progress.

MY AUNT’S mail order course was taken in 1935 and depended on prompt delivery. Fortunately we now have the convenience of a computer classroom along with related YouTube videos that connect directly in real time. Easily accessing the 2000’s new way of learning.

The Liz Steel TRAVEL SKETCHING course is a brand new offering and something that I felt I needed at this point to help me focus on creating “little books”. And, as I discovered, like anything else worth knowing it takes time to learn this art form. During the online interaction, students were encouraged to share their light-bulb moments that they had with the TRAVEL SKETCHING COURSE.

Promised myself not to skip through and jump ahead but take time to absorb all of the information that was provided. By systematically following provided lessons and the LiveStreams a light-bulb moment occurred. And, it was quite simple. Begin the sketch by using 7 LINES, 5 SHAPES, or 3 LAYERS.

LESSON LEARNED: Just begin a sketch by using 7 LINES, 5 SHAPES, or 3 LAYERS.

Now all I need to do is practice, practice, practice!
